Pet Visits

Let's face it ... kennels are NOT a fun place for your pet.   It is my belief and experience that most companion animals feel safer and happier in their own familiar home environment.  Their home is a haven where they feel loved and protected.  To remove pets from their home and leave them in a kennel can be a traumatic experience for both the pet and the owner.  No matter how smart your pet may be, he doesn't understand why he is being left in a strange place, doesn't know when or if you are coming back, and is in a place with all kinds of strange smells, sounds and other animals.  The owner worries about what their pet is thinking and feeling and feels guilty for leaving their "baby".

A dog or cat that has had the run of the house and/or yard can become extremely stressed living in a cage or unfamiliar run.  Thus many animals return home with "kennel cough".  The stress they experience weakens their immune system.  They are just like us ... when we are stressed we are more likely to get sick.

This is why the best solution is to leave your pets at home and let us pamper them.  We can visit your pets one to three times each day and they get to eat their own food and special treats.  They are fed and walked according to your instructions.  We will brush them, play with them, and give them plenty of love too.  We accommodate special needs, diets or medications, and can even put the radio or TV on to your pet's favorite station!

As you can see, there is minimal disruption to their daily routine.  The only thing missing is you!!  However, we hope your pets will come to think of us as part of their extended family - just as we consider them part of ours!

Strict cleanliness standards are followed:  Pet food and water dishes are washed daily or as needed, litter boxes are cleaned daily or more often if needed, floors are swept of loose pet food and litter, and we clean up after all pet food preparation.

There is no extra charge for bringing in mail & newspapers, watering a small number of plants, alternating lights (to give your home a "lived in" look while you're away), and taking out trash cans & recycling on garbage day.

We believe in networking with other pet sitters and pet-related businesses in the area.  That way we can help people find the best care for their pets.  We meet quarterly and discuss topics relevant to the pet sitting profession.

If you need pet care on a regular or on-going basis, we recommend that you register with our "Safe Key" program.  Then your house key is kept on file ... so that pet care arrangements are just a phone call away, even if you have to leave at a moment's notice.
Pet Boarding

There are certain pets who are much better suited for boarding than remaining in their own home, and we will be able to advise you on the best choice to make for your pet's care while you're away.   We aim to provide a "home away from home" for our furry boarders. My own dog Pansy and my kitties Olley and Banjo, love to share their home and make all our guests welcome. Our boarders are not caged, have "free run" of the home and are treated like part of the family.  We have a fenced back yard for dogs to frolic in, and a pool for those who like to swim (supervised only) ... and cats are kept strictly indoors.  Dogs are walked at least twice daily on the open space hills in the neighborhood, for approx. 30-45 mins.  If they are good off-leash they are allowed to run free on the trails, otherwise they are kept on leash.  In order to take advantage of this service it is essential that your pet be current on shots, fully house-trained, on a flea/tick control program, and have no destructive habits.  In consideration of Olley, Banjo and our kitty guests, I do not board dogs that aren't cat-friendly.  Enough food for the boarding period must be provided at the time of drop-off.
"We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate of having taken form so far below ourselves.  And therein we err, we greatly err.  For the animal shall not be measured by man.  In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear.  They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time."

Overnight Sitting

For the absolute minimum disruption to your pet's life you have the option of having a sitter live in your home with your pet while you're gone.  Your pet will be pampered with plenty of love and attention, and can even sleep on the bed with the sitter if it so desires!  Most of our sitters leave for work each day and return in the evening (just like you).  If your pet needs a visit during the day there will be an additional fee.  Our sitters have all undergone background checks and come with excellent references.

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.  You are his life, his love, his leader.  He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.  You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion

"I've never understood why women love cats.  Cats are independent, they don't listen, they don't come in when you call, they like to stay out all night, and when they're home they like to be left alone and sleep.  In other words, every quality that women hate in a man, they love in a cat."

Many people love cats.  From time to time, newspapers print stories about some elderly widow who died and left her entire estate, valued at $320,000, to her cat, Fluffkins.  Cats read these stories too, and are always plotting to get named as beneficiaries in their owners' wills.  Did you ever wonder where your cat goes when it wanders off for several hours? It meets with other cats in estate-planning seminars.  I just thought you should know.
